Visit, Stay & Make

We invite everyone to visit our workshop and observe the production process firsthand. This invitation reflects our commitment to transparent and accessible craftsmanship.

We offer three distinct ways for you to engage with us:

  1. Visit our atelier.

  2. Stay overnight on the same property in Casa Abel, our guest house.

  3. Make your own piece in our atelier.

These options can be experienced independently or together. We are excited to share and celebrate this craft with you!

Stay

Casa Abel, built in 1945 by Nuno’s grandfather, is a traditional Portuguese country house made of natural, local materials and lovingly preserved by the family.

It features tasteful yet simple decor with hand-picked vintage pieces, artworks, and some of our own crafts.

Located on the same peaceful property as the TOINO ABEL basket-weaving workshop, it is surrounded by nature and our house animals. Close to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other notable places, it offers a tranquil, private base for exploring the region.

Casa Abel is also a unique setting for hands-on basketry experiences, offering those who wish the opportunity to work alongside the TOINO ABEL basket-weaving workshop.

The cottage accommodates up to four guests and features a full kitchen that opens into the living room, a fireplace, two bedrooms and a dedicated workspace.

Make

Experience the art of Portuguese basketry firsthand. Our workshops are suitable for all ages and skill levels and can range from 4 hours to 3 days, with a maximum of 4 participants. All materials are provided, and each participant leaves with their own creation.

As a reference, a newcomer would normally need around two days just to weave a basket. Additional time may be needed for finishing, stitching and other details.

While not required, staying at Casa Abel provides the perfect setting to immerse yourself in the craft.
